Fundraising Ideas

15/09/2010

I was talking to some people the other day about my forthcoming trek up Mount Kilimanjaro for charity.

They thought I was absolutely mad - no contradiction from me there - but I said that the main driving force was yes a desire to challenge myself but more so I wanted to raise a meaningful sum for the children's charity - Well Child.

This go us chatting about fundraising in general and when I got home I jotted down ten really good ideas on how to raise money for charity.

Thought you might be interested!Fundraising Ideas

  • Sponsored trekking/walk/run/bike ride
You will get extra sponsorship if you offer to brand your shirt with logos.
  • Gift brochures with branded merchandise
Good profit margins for the charity.
  • Shoe shining in shopping centres, supermarkets, railway stations.
  • Networking evening.
Business people love them - they meet new people - you provide say cheese and wine and a small gift (branded with charity logo!) and charge, say £25.
  • Golf Day.
Good for networking - great money raiser!
  • Casino Night/Bingo Night/Race Night.
Great fun - easy to organise and the charity gets a % of the takings.
  • Wine tasting evening.
Local wine shops will often give you wine at a discount and a % of all sales made. NB try a cigar evening if you can get a suitable venue - really good fun!
  • Football tournament.
I organised a multi-team event a Shepshed's ground in Leicestershire three years ago - everybody enjoyed it, raised loads of money and got great profile in the media.
  • Personalised product.
Get kids drawings/pictures put onto mugs, mouse mats, t-shirts etc and then sell to family and friends.
  • Treasure hunt - with a spin!
Charge people to take part but put really nice (small) prizes along the route - so even if you don't win the big prize you get something.
