The work and dedication of council staff in York has been celebrated at an inaugural staff awards ceremony in the city.

Local newspaper for the region, the York Press reports the City of York Council held an event known as the 'eXtra Factor', at York's Explore centre.

The award scheme saw 200 nominees, guests and sponsors gather in recognition of those who go the extra mile in their duties at the authority.

The work of shortlisted candidates was shown on film clips, with the winners being presented with framed certificates and some retail vouchers.

Among the winners receiving the plaques were the council’s libraries department for Team Of The Year.
