‘Lest We Forget’
On the 11th minute of the 11th hour of the 11th month we remember our heroes. Those men, women – and animals - who gave their lives in global conflicts to protect others.
The first world war officially ended on 11 November 1918. The following year, in 1919 on the same date , King George V held the first Remembrance Day to honour the 8.5 million people on both sides who lost their lives in WW1. Almost 500,000 British horses, mules, camels and bullocks too were killed in the conflict between 1914 and 1918.
